The new Sofia Metro extension serving the Levski G neighbourhood is expected to open to passengers on 15 August, according to Deputy Mayor for Transport and Urban Mobility Viktor Chaushev.
An official opening ceremony is scheduled for 14 August, while the start of passenger operations depends on the final approval of the national acceptance commission. Once authorization is granted, the new extension will begin serving residents of Levski G and the surrounding districts.
The extension will provide faster access between northeastern Sofia and the rest of the metro network, improving connectivity with the city centre.
New metro trains for Lines M1, M2 and M4
As part of Sofia's public transport modernization programme, the municipality has secured funding for the purchase of 16 new metro trains for Lines M1, M2 and M4.
Once delivered, the new fleet will renew more than half of Sofia Metro's rolling stock, improving reliability, passenger comfort and the overall quality of metro services.
According to Deputy Mayor Chaushev, the municipality has already secured the advance funding required to keep the procurement process on schedule.
