Temporary Suspension of Sofia Metro Line 3 Between “Orlov Most” and “Hadzhi Dimitar” Due to Extension Toward Slatina

11 May 2026

From May 11 to June 20, service on Line 3 of the Sofia Metro will be temporarily suspended between the “Orlov Most” and “Hadzhi Dimitar” metro stations. The interruption is required due to construction and installation works related to the future extension of the line toward the Slatina and Mladost districts.

During the suspension, the “Teatralna” and “Hadzhi Dimitar” metro stations will not serve passengers. Metro Line 3 will temporarily operate only between the “Gorna Banya” and “Orlov Most” stations, with “Orlov Most” functioning as the temporary terminal station.

The service interruption is necessary for complex engineering works involving the construction of railway diversions and modifications to the contact power network. The works are a key stage in the ongoing metro expansion project from Shipka Street through the Slatina district to Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard.

To maintain transport connections for residents of the Hadzhi Dimitar, Levski, and nearby neighborhoods, Sofia Municipality and the Center for Urban Mobility are introducing a temporary replacement bus line, M3. The line will operate between Orlov Most Square and Levski G residential district, replacing the metro service in the affected section.

The temporary M3 buses will travel along Madrid Boulevard, Cherkovna Street, and Vladimir Vazov Boulevard, stopping at all existing bus and trolleybus stops along the route except for the “Aleko Konstantinov Street” and “Poduenska Street” stops.

In the direction toward Levski G, buses will depart from “Orlov Most Square” and continue via Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Boulevard, Madrid Boulevard, Cherkovna Street, and Vladimir Vazov Boulevard. In the opposite direction, the route will pass through Pop Gruyo Street and Vladimir Vazov Boulevard back to Orlov Most Square.

Bus line M3 will operate every 10 minutes during daytime on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends. The first departure from Orlov Most will be at 5:09 a.m., while the last departure will be at 11:54 p.m. on weekdays and 11:45 p.m. on weekends.

With the introduction of the temporary traffic organization, the temporary bus line 1TB will be discontinued. According to Sofia Municipality, the temporary measures are designed to allow critical infrastructure works on the metro extension to continue while ensuring reliable public transport service for the affected areas.

The detailed timetable for bus line M3, including all stops and departure times, is available on the website of the Center for Urban Mobility.
