Sofia’s public transport switches to euro: new prices effective from 1 January 2026

26 Nov 2025

Starting 1 January 2026, all payments in Sofia’s public transport system will be made in euro. The Urban Mobility Centre has published the official ticket and pass prices that will apply next year.

According to the announcement, the prices in euro have been rounded down during the conversion process — a decision that makes travel documents more affordable for passengers. The centre’s statement on Facebook highlights: “We are switching to euro! Prices are going down in favour of passengers.”

New ticket and pass prices:

  • 30+ ticket – from 1.60 BGN → 0.80 €
  • Daily pass for all lines – from 4.00 BGN → 2.00 €
  • Monthly pass – from 50 BGN → 25.50 €
  • Annual pass – from 365 BGN → 185 €

With strict mathematical conversion, the prices would have been slightly higher — 0.82 € for a single ticket, 2.05 € for a daily pass, 25.56 € for a monthly pass, and 186.62 € for an annual pass. Rounding down results in a tangible price reduction and more accessible public transport for Sofia’s residents and visitors.
