24 Mar 2020

Despite the state of emergency in the country, the third metro line is expected to go as planned - in May. This was announced by Eng. Stoyan Bratoev, Executive Director of Metropolitan EAD, quoted by Economic.bg.

"At the moment everything is going according to plan and tests are being done. There are some obstacles, but we still expect the third line to be officially released in May, "Bratoev said. He specified that there was a delay by Siemens because they had pulled out their workers. According to him, this is not expected to affect the final result at the moment and the third line should be officially released according to plan.

The start of the third line of the metro was delayed many times. Initially, it was expected to start by the end of October 2019, but a little later the deadline was extended and it was said that the first trains would depart in February 2020. At the end of 2019, however, Eng. expects the third line to be officially released in April-May.

It is the route from the Krasno Selo metro station to the intersection of Patriarch Evtimiy Blvd. and Graf Ignatiev Street. It is 4 km long and also includes the stations at Bulgaria Blvd., the Medical Academy and the National Palace of Culture. They are completely ready and now trains are being tested on them at speed of 20 km/h.
